Our Wedding Ceremony

Another beautiful photo by John Snell

Okay, the latest news is that we have chosen our officiant.  As some of you know, Ken and I were hoping to have a friend perform our ceremony.  We have decided on Tom Isaacs.  Tom is a dear friend and of like mind with regards to spiritual development and lifestyle.  He is a practicing reflexologist but we think his greatest qualification is his heart which he shares generously.  Thank you Tom for consenting to our request.  We couldn't be more honored or pleased.

We wanted to take a moment to explain some of the traditions we'll be incorporating into our ceremony.
We believe that all religions are valid paths to the same goal, union with God.  Between the two of us we
have had diverse spiritual influences and so we have chosen to incorporate them into one ceremony that
we have written ourselves.

The beginning of the ceremony will be a walking meditation for our guest and for us.  We are asking that all our guests arrive and walk together to the overlook in silence, taking the time to collect our thoughts and just be together without the need for conventional communication.  We would like to set aside this time to just be, not talk or do.

We will also be incorporating a tradition that we have adapted from Hinduism and Judaism.  In a traditional Hindu wedding, the bride and groom take seven steps together with each step symbolizing a different aspect of living a spiritual life.  In Judaism the bride circles the groom seven times during the Sheva Brachot.  The seven Jewish wedding blessings are in fact very similar to the Hindu.  We have adapted the two and taken the core meaning to create our own seven blessings.

We would like also to thank our friend Jennifer Diamond-Hopkins who has agreed to bless us all with her beautiful voice during the ceremony.  She will be singing several different songs in Hebrew.
